Tacking Iron

The ShreSha Tacking Iron is a compact hand-held tool for setting tissues, dry mounting, and Berger Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (BEVA) heat set adhesives.

The ShreSha Tacking Iron shoe has a non-stick coating, rounded sides and a pointed tip for access to hard-to-reach areas.

The ShreSha Tacking Iron’s temperature range is 100-220°C (212 to 428°F) for conserving a range of materials. The rectangular area of the tacking iron is approximately five square inches.

Electronic controls help limit the temperature fluctuation to 3°F of the setting.

The Tacking iron has a twelve-inch power cord for a long reach.

Tips for the use of the ShreSha Tacking Iron:

  • Frequently lifting the tacking materials away from the materials under conservation prevents overheating.
  • Cleaning the tacking iron between two uses prevents contamination of the later treated material.
  • Use heat seat tissue compatible with materials in conservation.
  • A tacking iron needs smooth even motion during use.
  • Do not overheat the material you are treating with a tacking iron.
  • Allow the treated material to cool before handling it.
  • Avoid using a high temperature that could damage the material being conserved.
  • Do not apply the tacking iron for too long.
